Honda EV Background
Honda Motor Company is the fifth largest car manufacturer in the world. Still, more importantly, it is the biggest supplier of engines for automotive, motorcycles, marine, industrial, and even aeronautical applications. You would expect that such an impressive ICE powerhouse would be hesitant to accept new technologies such as EVs, but quite the contrary, Honda is one of the pioneers of this segment. The first Honda electric vehicle was produced in 1997 under Honda EV Plus. Although small, the EV Plus had impressive performance (for the times) and led to the development of other battery-powered cars, like the 2012 Honda Fit EV. However, the modern era of Honda's electric models started in 2020 with the introduction of the cute and efficient Honda e. We at Voldt support Honda's efforts for a more sustainable future with our lineup of quality charging cable solutions for their models.
Honda EV Models
As one of the major global players in the automotive industry, Honda's EV efforts are specific to the region in which they are sold. In Europe, Honda is present with Honda e and Honda e:NY1. The Honda e is a compact city car with a very nice design, practical features, and a spacious interior, representing the perfect urban cruiser with decent range and performance. For the 2024 model year, the Honda e is discontinued, but you can still see them on the streets. The e:NY1 is a compact SUV with more room and an extended range sold in two versions – Elegance or Advance models. Of course, Honda has announced several new models using battery power or a PHEV drive train.
Honda EV Technology
The Honda e-battery technology was designed to emphasize range and usability. This compact car used a small 35.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack with 400 v architectures. It supported the AC and DC charging methods with 6.6 kW and 46 kW charging rates. Designed as an urban vehicle, its range was up to 170 km. However, the e:NY1 compact SUV uses the bigger 68.8 kWh battery pack with more power (201 hp) and significantly more extended range. The battery powers the front wheels (a dual motor version is not available) and has an 11 kW charging rate on AC and 78 kW on DC charging. We at Voldt readily have all the charging cable solutions you need to power those Honda EV models safely and quickly.
